Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), a master developer of major tourism destinations in Abu Dhabi, has appointed Brookfield Multiplex Services to operate its Saadiyat Construction Village. This state-of-the-art housing community in the UAE’s capital has been recognised as a model of best practice and multi-faceted offerings particularly designed to house workers employed by contractors during the construction phase of Saadiyat Island.
Brookfield Multiplex, renowned for building, engineering, maintaining and operating property and infrastructure assets across the globe over the past 50 years, will supervise the operations of Saadiyat Construction Village pertaining to the workers’ accommodation, recreational activities, and all other social and leisure events.
Under the operation and maintenance contract, Brookfield Multiplex’s prime objective is achieving performance standards that uphold both resident welfare and lifespan of the Village’s assets. The services comprise accommodation, leisure, recreation and event management; in addition to supervising retail services, first aid and medical clinics, catering services (using a dedicated industrial kitchen), laundry and housekeeping, waste management, security, and landscaping functions.
Brookfield Multiplex will also provide fully comprehensive maintenance services and deliver a phased replacement programme based on life expectancy for all installed assets comprising the civil structures; mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations; fire and control systems; furniture, fixtures, and equipment; as well as the dedicated central cooling and sewerage treatment plants.
Saadiyat Construction Village was purposely built by TDIC in 2009 to accommodate a capacity of up to 20,000 construction workers who are dedicated to developing the world-class projects on Saadiyat Island, such as the iconic museums, art centres, luxury resorts and chic residences – some of which have been completed and are teeming with residents, visitors and tourists. More importantly, the accommodation facility has been highly acclaimed for its holistic concept of providing its community with diverse social, recreational and educational services.
The high-tech design of Saadiyat Construction Village focuses on offering a broad selection of activities for the occupants in a multicultural community. The residents, who hail from different ethnic backgrounds, enjoy the advantages of extensive recreational and open space facilities in a highly sociable and harmonious environment. These encompass a four-hectare floodlit and grassed sporting area that includes four cricket pitches, basketball court and tennis court. Meanwhile, those wishing to escape the warmer summer months can take part in numerous indoor activities, such as playing table tennis, engaging in board game competitions, art painting, Internet browsing, indulging in a wealth of literature in the libraries, and relaxing to their favourite satellite TV programmes.
Saadiyat Construction Village is designed to facilitate the lives of the workers by providing them with barbershops, prayer rooms, spacious dining halls, food outlets and shops with highly affordable goods.
Regular competitions and activities are held at Saadiyat Construction Village to enrich the living experience for workers on the island. These include art competitions, and soccer and cricket tournaments. TDIC has also introduced an English Literacy Programme for the workers in order to help them enhance their English skills. The classes are taught by TDIC staff volunteers.
