"The success of the first elections in 2006 created strong awareness and knowledge among UAE Nationals, especially on the concerns and processes related to political development. This has helped in further highlighting UAE’s vision to expand the number of citizens in the electoral colleges,” said His Excellency during a lecture held at the Ministry of Interior.
The lecture was attended by His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and member of the National Election Committee; His Excellency Saeed Al Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary for Federal National Council and the Committee’s Rapporteur; and His Excellency Sami Bin Adi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs.
"The UAE’s leadership is confident that political participation is an integral part of the country’s overall development, and believes that the Federal National Council represents a powerful platform for political participation and creates a positive impact in the decision-making process. This has led to increase the number of electoral colleges and participation of more UAE nationals, with the number of voters expected to reach 80, 000,” said Dr Gargash.
“The UAE has witnessed strong growth and development in various sectors. This has enabled the nation to lead the region having accomplishing tremendous progress in a very short period of time, which other countries have taken decades to achieve. We set a significant example in the region’s stability, tolerance, modernity and cultural identity, and we have adopted an approach that would gradually help us to secure and grew our achievements and development,” he added.
"The UAE is committed to enrich dialogue on political, social and economic development within the social and cultural framework of the UAE, and this underscores the ambition of UAE Nationals to become part of this progress,” Dr Gargash said.
“Since the first elections in 2006, the formation of the National Election Committee, which includes representatives from relevant government bodies and civil society, has been adopted to guarantee the credibility and integrity of the elections," he said.
"At this stage the National Election Committee is focusing on completing all organizational and logistical arrangements for election implementation, as well as enhancing political education and awareness on the UAE President’s programme to promote political participation.
"We have done a very good job lately with regards to organizing the election process, and we are currently discussing the distribution of polling centers according to the expansion of electoral bodies, taking into consideration the geographical location, distance and other relevant aspects.
"The coming elections aim to adding remarkable value to our past success as well as present and future. We look forward to establishing a unique culture of elections in the UAE society which is one of the most advanced societies in the region in many sectors,” said Dr Gargash.
