Abu Dhabi Summit promising for renewable energy industries: British expert
(23 January 2010)
Blackaby said that the summit has put Abu Dhabi on the world map as the destination of the renewable energy industry in the wake of its success in attracting senior officials and decision makers.

Nigel Blackaby Director of Conferences PennWell International in London, has expected the fourth edition of the World Future Energy Summit 2011, will witness huge progress, following success in opening doors for future of renewable energy industries the world needs.

Blackaby said that the summit has put Abu Dhabi on the world map as the destination of the renewable energy industry in the wake of its success in attracting senior officials and decision makers, innovators and manufacturers under one roof in Abu Dhabi to meet the challenges of the future.

He noted that contrary to Copenhagen summit, the Abu Dhabi summit succeeded to provide an atmosphere of confidence for international cooperation in the provision of energy alternatives and reliance on clean energy from now on to protect the climate from global warming.

Blackaby explained that the summit knocked on the doors of the future in terms of sustainable development linked to the evolution in the protection of the environment and provision of better quality of life to people, stressing that "the renewable energy is the future for all of us in the East and West." He noted that the UAE is in the right direction after its decision to build five nuclear plants for peaceful purposes, because this is the alternative in the long-term as other energy resources are depletable.

He pointed out that the renewable energy sector needs up to $ 30 billion in the next phase from 2010 to 2012 to ensure the realisation of projects that have been announced recently, and contribute to reducing carbon emissions, adding that afterwards the investments will rise to $ 100 billion annually.

Blakaby praised the role of Abu Dhabi National Energy (Taqa) and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to set up projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions in a number of countries in the world. He expected that demand for nuclear energy will double to provide electricity and water desalination in the Arab Gulf region during the next two decades due to population growth and urban expansion.
